Cr8tivity – Cool Tools for the Etsy Community

I just wanted to share a quick post about a site I came across recently that might be helpful for the Etsians out there.

Cr8tivity is a very useful site for the Etsy community.

I have seen some widgets made by these guys, and finally decided to check out the site.

What They Offer

Cr8tivity offer a number of really useful and informative tools for you to use for free if you have an Etsy shop. Some of them are the same as you can find at other sites like Craftopolis and Craft Cult, but they have some unique tools also:

On Cr8tivity you can find:

  • a widget to put on a webpage that shows off your Etsy shop items. I have found it more useful than the Etsy mini, because it actually rotates through your products, rather than just showing one-four static items.
  • a flyer-maker – you can make a colour flyer of one or four of your products that you can save as either a pdf or a Word document. This is a really cool time-saving device for advertising in letter-box drops or at markets
  • a nice pie-graph graphic of listings and views in your shop by section, and feedback, too

I recommend you go check them out and have a squiz!

ELINtm – Lichen and Mould: Art and Accessories

Having spend the majority of my university life in microbiology labs, I almost died with glee when I saw ELINtm. Talk about a unique and geeky twist on embroidery and crochet!

There’s a lot more fabric-mouldy goodness over here.

Red Dog Forge – Artisan Feature and Giveaway

Today I bring you something a little different from the regular… for starters, our featured artisan today is a bloke! Blacksmith Shane Stainton from Red Dog Forge makes amazing knives and homewares – mayhap you’ll find something for the man in your life (who perhaps fancies himself a little bit Indiana Jones…). Or, if you love the look of cast iron, a lovely handmade piece that would fit in with your home decor.

Where do you live?

in the foothills of the Adirondacks in Upstate NY

Where do you do your work?

I have a forge and workshop at home and also volunteer as a colonial period smith at Fort Klock

What’s your favourite place in the world, and why?

Selkirk Park Pond near Port Ontario, Its me childhood home

Tell us a little bit more about yourself! Your ‘day job’ or business, family, hobbies…

I’m heavily involved with both English medieval and American colonial recreation organizations, so when I’m not smithing at home I’m smithing in strange clothing in far away lands! *grins*

What did you want to be ‘when you grew up’?

Hercules or an astronaut or a blacksmith * no really*

How did you first get into your craft/art?

I first got into crafting in general when My friends Dick and Lia “adopted” me at a renn fair to be their worker…I got into smithing about 10 years ago to try to make my own leatherworking tools and quickly realized it was what I wanted to do full time.

What do you make?

I forge decorative accents for the home such as potracks candlesticks, door pulls, etc, I also am a bladesmith specializing in mid to high end custom knives.

What are you most proud of making?

Successful new blacksmiths! I really REALLY enjoy teaching the art and gain the most satisfaction from seeing someone “get” it and then run with it. What a high!

What do you like the most/least about selling your wares online?

Most? exposure, it usually leads to new people and places, least? not being able to meet said people in person.

I love…

teaching and demonstrating my craft

It drives me crazy when…

I cant find the coffee grounds in the morning! arrrrgh! :D

What’s your favourite word?

Grok, no seriously, its a word! I swear! Google it!

If you could sum yourself or your work up in one sentence, it would say…

I strive to continue the smithing tradition as it was found in the mid eighteenth century, a time when the smith relied on the craft in their hands and heart.

Two Cheeky Monkeys – Artisan Feature and Giveaway

Today we welcome Deborah from Two Cheeky Monkeys! Deb is an Aussie with a love of shiny things, just like me. She makes a range of beautiful jewellery, and you’ve got a chance to score a piece of it for yourself today!

Where do you live?

In the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia

Where do you do your work?

I create from home (when my kids are asleep).

What’s your favourite place in the world, and why?

Don’t know if I could choose just one favourite. I was born in Singapore so I love going back to visit.  I also love the beauty of the Tasmanian landscape.

Tell us a little bit more about yourself! Your ‘day job’ or business, family, hobbies…

I am married to a wonderful maths/engineering/computer geek and my day job is currently taking care of our two energetic little girls (aka the two cheeky monkeys).  I used to work in research science (genetics) so I still have a keen interest in all things science-y.  My hobbies include jewellery making, sewing, paper crafting and running/jogging.  I also love music; I play the piano once a month at my church and spend a lot of my time singing silly made up songs to my girls, LOL.

What did you want to be ‘when you grew up’?

When I was very small I wanted to be a teacher, then I wanted to be a lawyer or musician.  And then I decided I just HAD to be a geneticist, which I sort of got to be before my kids were born.

How did you first get into your craft/art?

My mum is rather arty, having majored in creative arts at school.  She was the one who taught me to sew and knit.  I am a big fan of jewellery so I taught myself to make jewellery too from craft/beading books and online tutorials when I was in my teens.

What do you make?

I make beaded jewellery and accessories with a leaning towards a vintage look.

What are you most proud of making?

Hmmm, this is a tough question too.  Possibly the Tabitha Necklace.  The idea was floating around in my head for about a month before I finally put it together.  I really wanted to keep this one!

What do you like the most/least about selling your wares online?

I love the generally wonderful online community I have discovered while selling online!  I also love how international such a community is, I am in contact with people from Australia, Nth America, Asia and Europe!  What I like least about selling online is the amount of time I spend taking photographs of my work.  I am not the best photographer around…

It drives me crazy when…

I have to wait or slow down.

What’s your favourite word?

Magnanimous (he he).
