I remember, about a year or two ago, trying to find a good Australian vintage homewares store on Etsy. Alas, at the time I didn’t have much luck, but I’m happy to report that they’ve been popping up with a vengeance over the last year.
The Fox and The Spoon Vintage is one such shop that caught my eye recently. Run by Sydney-sider Maria Stevenson, The Fox and The Spoon not only stocks some gorgeous pieces, it also has beautifully styled, to-die-for photography.
I would like to don this frock, put my hair in ringlets, and swan around a party with a martini in my hand. There would be lots of dapper gents in suits, with impeccable manners and silver tie-pins. There would be other ladies in equally lovely 50s dresses and beautiful hair.
There would be a live band with a crooner belting out old tunes in a mellow voice. There would be dancing. There would be hors d’oeuvres. Especially devilled eggs (not cool, I know, but man they’re tasty).
We would talk and laugh into the wee hours, and the stars would shine above us in the balmy night.
Anyone got a time machine for me? Or a spot as an extra on Mad Men?
My friend Teresa of Bess Georgette just listed this adorable plaid dress in her shop yesterday… and I tells you, if I hadn’t JUST bought 2 other dresses from her as a belated birthday treat, this baby would be MINE!
I swear that woman has a telepathic link into my mind – I want everything she sells (a rather large chunk of my vintage wardrobe has come to me via her!). I shall have to share my two new beauties with you all soon.
Alas, my budgeting prevails and I must content myself to sigh in admiration and share it here for the world to see… and maybe for its new owner to find it…
…but if they don’t and it’s still there next month, all bets are off, peeps.
