Oh, I’m so excited to share this with you all! After finding the photo I shared in this post, I got the bug to try making a teacup succulent garden of my own!
I started with one lonely teacup from the local Sunday flea market. So, some op shopping was in order. But then, on Tuesday, I was up in Hamilton, helping to hand out flyers for the brisStyle market tomorrow… and there, at the church, was a big rummage sale!
I scored big after finding a stall that was full of crockery and teacups! Here is my haul:
I decided to stick to a blue and white colour-scheme.
We do have some succulents and cacti, but they’re all pretty happy where they are, so I decided to buy some new ones (plus a few strawberry plants)!
Nick and I then sat down on the grass – I potted, he added the pebbles… with an inquisitive kitty sniffing around (can you see the shaved bit from where they had to give him an ultrasound? Poor little mite)…
Now, the most exciting part – putting them all in their new home! The windowsill above my desk is now nice and full!
I’m super-happy with the result! I now have a lovely little garden to keep me company while I work (along with all my birdies, of course!)
I think the white pebbles really finish it off wonderfully – and I’m loving the fact I got to use the old teapot that I picked up a long time ago – from where, I couldn’t tell you!
If you have your own teacup garden, I’d love to see it!

What a neat idea and thank you for the neat photos! You might enjoy some of the succulents on my recent video post on the blog. Keep up the lovely work!
Ohhhh how awesome do they all look together! I’m SOOOOOOOO inspired to do a teapot garden now!! I think there should be mad hatter or alice somewhere..hiding near the tea cups hehe!

Very very nice Jess, they look perfect.
I love them!! Beautiful, classic, and now I’m inspired to start collecting old teacups.
Thanks for sharing.
they look absolutely lovely
Lovely

I’ve been having similar thoughts about hollowing out lightbulbs and making mini terrariums – there’s some great tutes out there
I’ve hollowed the bulbs – just need to find the succulents!
Squeeee! I MUST try this! Need a rummage sale, stat!
Oh, thanks everyone!! I’m loving it
I have the feeling I may want to add more….
They’re great Jess! What a pretty way to brighten up your window sill.
umm, gorgeous! I need to do this now.
seriously sweet.
So, so cute! Love the color scheme!! Found your link at Meet me at Mike’s.
OMG Jess! They look amazing! Great job.
Jess! That looks absolutely gorgeous – seriously lovely, lovely!!! You never cease to amaze me with your inventiveness! :0)
WOW I have about 50 cups in my cupboard and only window sill space in my apartment (no balcony or window boxes or terrace boo hoo) and I miss having a garden so I think I will steal your idea!
Did you plant the strawberry plants in a container or outside? I would so love to have an indoor garden but I have no idea how I would do it and I’m snooping around everyone’s blogs to get some inspiration
Oh, the strawberries will be outside – it’s the right climate and time of year for them
But I’ll plant them in a pot!
oooh these are fabulous!!!
We are so making these for christmas gifts!
WOW! Such an awesome collection Jess – what an inspirational view you’ll have to look at now!
Hi Jess,
I’m Irene (from TCE). It’s true, this post is really nice to read, and personally I really love to posts about projects and works made by the bloggers, on their home, ‘behind the scene’ pics etc.
It’s always funny and interesting.
Thanks for sharing the link!
P.s. you’re really cute in these pictures Jess!
They look just wonderful!
Beautiful Jess. I just cleaned out my studio (AGAIN) and now need to cosy it up a bit – perfect idea. Love the photo of Nicks hands too… : )
Hehe, thanks Irene!
Amelia, I love that one, too. I really find those ‘little detail’ photos draw me in!
Kate – what a great idea!
That really came out so cute! The blue and white china looks so great with the green of the plants.
ah these are AMAZING!!! did oyu need to make little holes in the cups for water to drain?
Thanks Victoria!
Liss, no, but I planted them in proper succulent mix, and I’m being very careful not to over-water them
And thanks xx
Thanks so much for sharing this! I’m making terrariums or some sort of succulent display as centrepieces for my wedding. This tutorial will definitely come in handy!
I stumbled onto your blog and I absolutely love it! Thanks for giving me the greatest idea ever on how to use all those teacups I have been collecting!
I shared this idea and your blog in my blog hope that was ok
Oh, thank you so much Sandy!! xx
Sarah, that sounds like an awesome idea!
ohh the possibilities, I especially like that you didn’t drill a drainage hole in the tea-cups so they can be used later for a different purpose.
this is a wonderful idea ~ i love succulents and pretty teacups! thank you for sharing! i want to do this this weekend!
warmest regards,
caitlin of wanderlustings xx
I’m so inspired Jess! Now I know what to do with all my old teacups that I just couldn’t part with. Thanks for the idea!

that’s such a sweet garden!
Your teacup garden is wonderful! I found it via oh, hello friend. I love the blue and white theme, and the white pebbles are perfect. We’re in the midst of figuring out how wide to make the windowsills in our new house, and my requirement is that the sunny ones be big enough to hold some potted plants. I think a few teacups would be just the thing. Thanks for the fun inspiration!
those are so cute! you have inspired me to do the same. now if only i had an available window sill that isn’t already full of plants
What about drainage?
You can drill holes in the bottom, or just fill the bottom of the cup with coarse pebbles, and then just be careful not to overwater

[...] Tea cup planters are a first for me. I haven’t heard so far about people putting plants in tea cups. Maybe because they are relatively small and can hold a small amount of gravel, but when I saw these planters I have changed my mind. Tea cups are in general very good looking and depending on the brand details and graphics can play a very important role in the design. If you want to have small plants that will fit perfectly on your window sill this can actually be a very good idea. The cup design along with some decorative gravel and the natural colors of the plant can really change the face of your dull window sills.{found on epherielldesigns}. [...]
