Oh, I’m so excited to share this with you all! After finding the photo I shared in this post, I got the bug to try making a teacup succulent garden of my own!
I started with one lonely teacup from the local Sunday flea market. So, some op shopping was in order. But then, on Tuesday, I was up in Hamilton, helping to hand out flyers for the brisStyle market tomorrow… and there, at the church, was a big rummage sale!
I scored big after finding a stall that was full of crockery and teacups! Here is my haul:
I decided to stick to a blue and white colour-scheme.
We do have some succulents and cacti, but they’re all pretty happy where they are, so I decided to buy some new ones (plus a few strawberry plants)!
Nick and I then sat down on the grass – I potted, he added the pebbles… with an inquisitive kitty sniffing around (can you see the shaved bit from where they had to give him an ultrasound? Poor little mite)…
Now, the most exciting part – putting them all in their new home! The windowsill above my desk is now nice and full!
I’m super-happy with the result! I now have a lovely little garden to keep me company while I work (along with all my birdies, of course!)
I think the white pebbles really finish it off wonderfully – and I’m loving the fact I got to use the old teapot that I picked up a long time ago – from where, I couldn’t tell you!

Your new garden looks so gorgeous Jess! And looks like you’ve found the perfect window ledge for it too. Very inspiring – I need to make the time this weekend to do my own!
Ohhhh how awesome do they all look together! I’m SOOOOOOOO inspired to do a teapot garden now!! I think there should be mad hatter or alice somewhere..hiding near the tea cups hehe!

I’ve been having similar thoughts about hollowing out lightbulbs and making mini terrariums – there’s some great tutes out there
I’ve hollowed the bulbs – just need to find the succulents!

WOW I have about 50 cups in my cupboard and only window sill space in my apartment (no balcony or window boxes or terrace boo hoo) and I miss having a garden so I think I will steal your idea!
Did you plant the strawberry plants in a container or outside? I would so love to have an indoor garden but I have no idea how I would do it and I’m snooping around everyone’s blogs to get some inspiration
Oh, the strawberries will be outside – it’s the right climate and time of year for them
But I’ll plant them in a pot!

ohh the possibilities, I especially like that you didn’t drill a drainage hole in the tea-cups so they can be used later for a different purpose.

Your teacup garden is wonderful! I found it via oh, hello friend. I love the blue and white theme, and the white pebbles are perfect. We’re in the midst of figuring out how wide to make the windowsills in our new house, and my requirement is that the sunny ones be big enough to hold some potted plants. I think a few teacups would be just the thing. Thanks for the fun inspiration!

What about drainage?
You can drill holes in the bottom, or just fill the bottom of the cup with coarse pebbles, and then just be careful not to overwater

[...] Tea cup planters are a first for me. I haven’t heard so far about people putting plants in tea cups. Maybe because they are relatively small and can hold a small amount of gravel, but when I saw these planters I have changed my mind. Tea cups are in general very good looking and depending on the brand details and graphics can play a very important role in the design. If you want to have small plants that will fit perfectly on your window sill this can actually be a very good idea.
