Stitching Little Houses

I have a very special project to share with you today. Please read on – we need you to help us spread the word, and find the people who need this help.

As we watched mother nature play havoc through Queensland, destroying lives, properties and possessions during the recent floods and cyclone, we knew that we couldn’t stand back and just watch. We wanted to do something to rebuild the spirit, the joy and the normalcy of those affected.

Recraft is our answer.

Recraft is offering $100 grants to those flood/cyclone affected individuals who lost tools, materials, fabrics etc for their crafting and small business endeavours…

Applications are open to those who lost everything, or a significant proportion, of their business supplies/materials during the floods or cyclone Yasi. It’s open to anyone who lives in QLD and was affected by the floods/cyclone, not just those in Brisbane.

Grants supplied will go towards recipients rebuilding their lifestyle, their livelihood and hobbies. It is often in times of stress and need do we find comfort in the ordinary; stitching, crafting, sewing, writing, etc to help us get our lives back on track. This is our small way of helping applicants do just that.

To apply for one of these grants, simply email us at recraftqld AT gmail.com with a brief description of your circumstances, we will then be in touch for further information. Alternatively, pop over here and download an application form.  Successful applicants will then receive $100 grants to purchase materials applicable to their situation. If you know someone who would be perfect for a grant, please let them know so they can apply!

Alternately, if you would like to donate to Recraft, please email us for more information. Please note that we are not a registered charity, just two gals, trying to help out our crafting community. 100% of all monies raised will be distributed in a fair and orderly manner.

Daniele will be answering your e-mails and coordinating donations. At the moment, we have, ourselves, put in $400 towards this effort – but we’d love to be able to help as many people as possible. Can you help?

“Recraft: Rebuilding our craft community one stitch at a time”

P.S. For those of you in Brisbane or surrounds who can’t contribute financially, but who could spare some of your stash, please check out The Handmade Expo’s ‘Re-Stash Craft Appeal’ – you can donate goods to go to crafters who lost their livelihood.

P.P.S. If you tweet about this, please @jessvanden and/or @MsWorldly – you can use the hashtag #ReCraft – thank you!!
