Birthday Flowers…

Nick and I have a bit of a running joke going about how he never buys me flowers.

I do love flowers, and he truly doesn’t buy them for me very often – but our little back-and-forth is more about us taking the mickey out of ‘traditional’ husband-wife roles (’cause let’s face it, we fly in the face of pretty much all of those traditional roles already!).

So, I was quite surprised when he came home with these on Saturday! The shops are shut here in Australia Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday for an insanely long public holiday due to the collision of Easter and ANZAC day, so he knew it would be the last chance to buy some before my birthday on Tuesday.

So, of course, I just had to share them with you!

Tomorrow morning I wake to the start of my 31st year on the planet, and the start of my fourth decade.

Bring it ON!

My Grandmother’s Tea Cups

A few of the many treasures rescued during the clean-out of my grandparent’s house. Granny is settled in down in my old room in the house now, but my parent’s house is already full of antiques from other generations.

It’s my turn to start collecting some of the family heirlooms, I think. It’s funny, when I was younger I would have totally ignored pretty teacups – they were so ‘old-lady’. Now they’re a treasure.

I left these as-is, I like the fact that you can see the tea stains on some of them. I wonder who drank the last cup of tea out of them, and when? They were pretty well hidden away in the back of an unused cupboard…

P.S. if you want to see the pretty saucers, too, they’re on my flickr
