One of the many little trips we did during our journey was to a traditional glass factory in the French village of La Rochere.

At the factory, you can sit and watch the men work as they craft many pieces of handmade glasswork – though the factory does have an automatic section too, I believe.

I was amazed at the calm and skill with which the workers handled the molten glass – walking around with big blobs of glass on the end of poles, swinging it around the workshop – slightly terrifying to comprehend to someone not used to working with such dangerous material!

A lot of what they make is not really my style of thing, but I did find these snails pretty damn cute. They also had a huge range of lovely glasses, dinnerware, and other little trinkets.

It was lovely to see a traditional skill in action – glassblowing is one of those crafts I would love to try, but I am far too scared to let my clumsy self near all that molten hotness!
