Since Nick and I have been delayed on our journey yet again, we decided a bit of a makeover on our room was needed.
See, we’ve been staying with my parents, and we’ve been sleeping/hanging out in a room up in the shed. It’s a nice, big room with properly panelled walls and all.. but we’d been constantly treating it as ‘temporary’ so had never bothered to organise it properly.
Well, we (mostly Nick, to be fair!) spent yesterday doing just that – and it’s lovely! I was happy to finally sort out my workspace, have a peek…
Unfortunately, the cat is only a temporary decoration… I do have to shoo him off when I’m doing any soldering!! (See my little soldering bench on the right there?). Oh, and see the cord for my laptop? Yes, that’s because I am over behind the camera in bed with it!
I still want to pretty it up some – I may have just had a little spending spree on Etsy.. shhhh… I’ll take another photo when it’s all prettified! A few things already there: the curtain, which was handpainted by my great-grandmother; and the little pull-out poster from Frankie magazine. The desk is made from an old door resting on a frame.
Nick gives me, oh, 2 days until this looks like a bombsite again…
And, just because we’re excited about the new Nikon Digital SLR we bought, here are some more shots of our current home.
The shed we’re living in…
My folk’s house…
And this is the front “yard”. Yep…
It was an awesome place to grow up, and a place I’m enjoying calling ‘home’ again.

I grew up in this great little town in the middle of nowhere. When I moved out at 19, I left on not the best of terms. After five years, we’ve grown up (and over our differences), and all the sudden, I love being “home” again, even just for weekend visits. In fact, my husband and I are heading over there tomorrow for a long weekend. Yay 🙂
Oh…two days before your work space looks like a bomb site?! Wow, you must be organized. It only takes me two hours!
I love that you’re using a door for a work table! When I was little and we needed a large table for birthday parties, my dad would take one of the doors off its hinges and set it on several short styrofoam cubes so that it was just the right height for 10 or so little kids to sit around it on the floor and eat cake. 😀
Hahaa Leyla!! Yep, I am also notoriously messy. I say it’s the price to pay for a creative mind, yes? 😉
I’m the same – when I moved out at 20, I couldn’t WAIT to go! Now we’re here, 10 years later, and it’s lovely. We’re even considering sub-dividing the 6 acres so Nick and I can build our own house here 🙂
What a fabulous front yard! I’d love to have some bushland to wander around in.
It’s always fun to see where other creative minds create.
And your folks ‘front yard’ is awesome!
Cheers,
Tasha
Ohhh… great workspace already. And such an amazing green place. Beautiful!
Looking very clean, tidy and spacious at the moment Jess! Do take a photo when you are up to your eyeballs in silver – or solder for that matter! I’d like to see the comparison – only becasue it wouldn’t make my workspace look so bed (messy, cramped BUT with obligitory cat wandering around!).
