I have something pretty special coming up on the blog over the next few weeks.
Cate Bolt of Project 18 recently sent me a mammoth bag of beautiful lampwork beads (I believe the majority of these to be handmade). She asked if I would be able to use them, or find them a good home, and I took on the challenge.
What she doesn’t know (that’s until she reads this post) is that I am going to find all of these beautiful beads new homes – and help support a few charities – but I need you to make it happen.
I am going to set up a Charity Auction, and I need your help. Here’s how it’s going to work:
- Inspired by Cate’s own auctions on Facebook, I’m going to follow the same format. Over a few weeks, I’m going to add new beads or small sets/lots of beads to the Lampwork Charity Auction photo album on Facebook (this will be hosted on the Epheriell FB Page).
- You will have 48 hours to bid on each bead/set by putting a price in the comments below each picture.
- At the end of the 48 hours, the highest bidder wins, sends me their money, and I will send them their beads!
All the money raised through this auction will be split equally between Cate’s charity Project 18, and Kiva (I will subtract the postage costs, but that is all). What do these charities do?
Project 18 -Â “Project 18 exists to improve the quality of life of orphaned and underprivileged children by providing a safe environment in which to grow, whilst educating them for a brighter future living in harmony with their environment.” (From the website) Basically, Cate – through her charity – is setting up orphanages in Indonesia for street kids.
Kiva – “Kiva’s mission is to connect people, through lending, for the sake of alleviating poverty. Kiva empowers individuals to lend to an entrepreneur across the globe. By combining microfinance with the internet, Kiva is creating a global community of people connected through lending.” (From the website) Basically, through Kiva you can lend money to an entrepreneur in an underprivileged/impoverished situation, so they can build a business to support them, their families and their community.
Please, please, please spread the work about this to all your crafty friends! The more people we get involved, the more money we can raise for these wonderful charities. Link back to this post, and/or share the FB page/photo album with your friends.
I’ll post and update here when it’s ready to go!
