Knowing Jess has a love for all things Vintage, I decided a quick & easy cushion slip would be the perfect project for my guest post here at Epheriell Designs.

I’ve selected a cute Vintage table cloth that I picked up on a recent op shop visit as it’s vibrant and sings Summer. It’s  basically a pillowcase style slip so you will be sitting back relaxing with your cushion & a cup of tea in no time.

You will also need a cushion insert {the key to a plump cushion is to use an insert a size smaller} and a few bits and pieces if you plan to embellish your slip.

Wash & press your table cloth before starting.

The measurements given here are for a square tablecloth 88cm (34.6”) x 88cm (34.6”) which means I’m using a 45cm (17.7”) insert.

Cut 3 pieces of fabric:

  • 44cm (17.3”) x 44 cm (front panel)
  • 22cm (8.7”) x 44cm (back panel)
  • 40cm (15.7”) x 40cm (back panel)

Make the most of the hemmed edges on your tablecloth. Your tablecloth is not likely to be square but that’s ok, it’s all part of the charm.

The sewing part is easy!

  • Place down your front panel right side facing up
  • The smaller back panel is placed down on the front panel, right sides together (the already hemmed edge of the tablecloth should be facing the centre.
  • Place the larger of the back panels on the other edge.  This panel should again be right sides together and overlapping the smaller back panel. Having a nice big crossover means the slip will have room to move when the cushion is lent against, avoiding the insert being exposed.
  • Pin your pieces and sew a continuous seam around the entire square using a 1cm seam.
  • Clip corners to give a great finish, trim seams if required, turn in and press.
  • You are done! Told you it would take no time at all.

Adding embellishments will add a touch of charm.  I’ve made some fabric covered buttons with yo-yo type flowers. You could always add button holes to the back or even ties.  The possibilities are endless for this easy cushion slip pattern.
