Since my grandmother is moving in with us, Nick and I had to clear out the wardrobe in my old bedroom… but where to put our clothes? We are seriously limited for space, so a free-standing wardrobe was the only solution.

We didn’t envision this wardrobe as anything of a permanent solution, so it was off to the op shop, where we found this old wardrobe for $30.

As you can see, it looked pretty shabby – the veneer on the front especially was completely banged-up, and had started peeling terribly.

It also had the most hideous white plastic handles…

So, Nick jumped into the revamp job with gusto, and after the purchase of some new, thin chipboard sheets, some varnish, and a couple of new handles, (worth around $60 all up) the cupboard was re-born!

It was also missing a key… but we found a matching one in amongst some keys that my grandfather had – what are the odds?

What a difference, eh? Now I’m actually looking forward to having this in our new bedroom when it’s finished, rather than dreading it!

$100 well spent, I reckon. And we might just keep this, too, instead of sending it back to the op shop when our current need for it has passed.
