This week I’m sharing 10 fantastic indie Aussie silversmiths. Those of you who’ve followed my jewellery adventures will know this is a topic close to my heart – though I can only hope to one day have the skill of these 10 fantastic artisans!

All Photos sourced from the designer’s webpages.

1. Kylie Gartside

Kylie lives and works in Northern NSW, and is currently studying a Bachelor of Fine Art, majoring in Gold and Silversmithing at the Queensland College of Art. Her work has a delicate, natural feel about it. She incorporates found materials into her work – such as crocodile skins!

2. Simone Walsh

Simone lives in the Blue Mountains, and makes a range of jewellery – there is a lot of detail in her work. She makes some amazing filigree designs – I wish I could achieve such detail!

3. Ceeb Wasserman

In her own words, Ceeb “likes to capture the the serenity and beauty of the ocean and her love of ‘japaneseness”. I think she does a superb job!

4. Rebecca Ward

Rebecca is a Brisbane local, who makes unusual jewellery using sterling silver and found materials. Rebecca is also super-lovely – she was my teacher when I did an Introductory Silversmithing course at the Brisbane Institute of Art.

5. Incalesco by Erika Harris

*Love*. Erika is one of my good DUSTy mates – and I have always loved her amazing jewellery. For a part-time jeweller, she has serious skill and talent.

6. Jenna Appleton

Jenna works from a studio in Sydney. She works with metal, and often incorporates stones and pearls. I have featured one of her most intricate and gorgeous pieces here…

7. Finchbird

Finchbird is the jewellery label of husband and wife team Dani and Ben Finch. Ben is the chief designer and silversmith, and Dani runs the business side of things. Full of simple, clean designs, Finchbird is one to watch.

8. Alice Whish

Alice makes amazing pieces based on Australian flora, amongst other things. Her fantastically intricate designs will definitely impress.

9. John Miller

John Miller has been making jewellery for over 35 years. He specialises in one-off pieces – and has an amazing level of skill. The piece below is a beautiful example of his talent.

10. Momoko Hatano

Beginning as a more traditional artist, Momoko has moved into jewellery design. She has a unique aesthetic, using a lot of animal imagery in her work.

So – that’s the wrap-up of 10 Aussie Indie Silversmiths! I think you’ll agree that there is some wonderful talent out there.
