This week we welcome Janice Johnson from Making Time TC! Janice makes… can you guess? Artisan clocks! Read on to find out more about her, her work… and be in the running to win a $25 voucher to her shop!
Where do you live?
I live in Traverse City, Michigan. Â A beautiful place to live and raise a family. Â I grew up on a farm about three miles south of the nearby village of Empire, the youngest of 10 children. Â People ask what it is like to be from such a large family. Â I tell them it’s great! Â But it’s all I know, so I can’t say it’s any better or worse than any other size family! Â I am married and have two children – a 20-year-old daughter and a 17-year-old son.
Where do you do your work?
I do my art work in a small spare bedroom in my home. Â It also serves as my office space and it gets very cluttered as I have a hard time sticking to one project at a time. Â I wouldn’t want to show you a picture of it right now!

What is your favourite place in the world?
One of my favorite places in the world is on my bed on a cool fall or cold wintry day with the sun shining in, covered with a soft blanket and my head on a soft pillow with my cats snuggled next to me.
What did you want to be ‘when you grew up’?
I went to college to be a legal secretary, but did not stay in the law arena for long. Â I held various bookkeeping and secretarial jobs until I had the opportunity to attend cosmetology school. Â I’ve been a licensed hair stylist since 1990 and have worked in the salon industry part time ever since. Â That has given me the chance to also spend time doing arts and crafts which I love. Â I don’t think I could go back to a 9-5 office environment.
How did you first get into your craft/art?
Growing up I did not have specific goals and was not aware of my creative passion. Â I know who I am so much more now and am always working on being true to myself.
What do you make?
I like to dabble in a lot of different arts and crafts, but a friend brought the idea of the clocks to me and it felt like a fun idea. Â It satisfies me because it is so varied. Â It allows me to play with color and a wide variety of materials. Â I also like that I can have a finished product in a relatively short period of time. Â Patience and delayed gratification are not my strong points!
What do you like the most/least about selling your wares online?
The best feeling is when a customer expresses their gratitude for my work. Â I love a happy customer!
I love . . . Â chocolate.
It drives me crazy when . . . I get too many things going at once and my work space is chaotic!
I have a lot of favorite words. . . abundance, simplicity, love, too many to list.
If I could sum myself or my work up in one sentence. . .
I can get really cliche here, but life for me is about discovering one’s own truth and purpose and doing my best to live out that truth and purpose.

My favorite item is the Red Paisley Clock- or maybe the black & white NYC clock.
Thanks for the great giveaway!!
I’m thinking that I need a clock in my dining room or living room so the Cream Ruffled Plate clock or the Dusty Rose Retro Plate clock would both work (cream in the dining room, rose in the living room). But, I also really, really like the Pink Daisy and the White Daisy clocks.
And, I found out about this because I subscribe to this blog (via Google Reader).
My fav is the “Whimsical Birds Tile Clock (6 Inches) No. 318″…. but I like anything relating to the word ‘whimsy’ 😉
