This week we welcome Marisa and her beautiful shop, Seaworthy. I am a little bit in love with Marisa’s lovely lace and crochet jewellery… read on to find out more about her and to win $30 worth of gorgeousness from her shop!

Where do you live?

I currently live in Portland, Oregon.

Where do you do your work?

I work out of a small space in my house.

What’s your favourite place in the world, and why?

Oh boy, this is so cliche but my favorite place in the world is my mom’s house. She still lives in the house that my brother and I were raised in. I mostly love it because she is there but also because its filled with memories and all the comforts of home. Close runner up would Short Sands Beach at Oswald West State Park on the Oregon Coast. Get there early enough to see the fog, stay long enough to enjoy the sun. It’s truly a wonderland: the forest, the creek, the beach, the ocean, the surfers, the cliffs, the waves…wish I was there now!

Tell us a little bit more about yourself! Your ‘day job’ or business, family, hobbies…

I’m currently sharing a home with the two loves of my life, my boyfriend, Clyde, and our dog, Sable. I have irons in a few fires at the moment. Seaworthy is my main focus but I also write and edit for Momentum Magazine and do some freelance writing work.  I also enjoy riding my bike around Portland and doing as much yoga as possible. I’m starting yoga teacher training in July!

What did you want to be ‘when you grew up’?

A million things and it’s been ever changing… a vet, a doctor, a dancer and a writer.

How did you first get into your craft/art?

I’ve been making crafts for as long as I can remember. As a child it was Fimo beads, cross stitch, paint by number, sewing projects, art projects, etc.  I’ve had a few stints with making jewelry through out my life as well. But when I started combing my love of found vintage objects with jewelry making, I knew I was on to something. Not because everything sold right away (it didn’t), but because of how much I enjoyed doing it. It started with a jar full of old keys that I had been collecting. One day, I just put one on a chain and started wearing it. People loved it and Seaworthy Jewelry just grew from there.

What do you make?

Jewelry using found vintage objects. This could include crochet, skeleton keys, pendants, lockets, glass knobs, beads, etc.

What are you most proud of making?

Probably the necklaces with the vintage crochet. I really enjoy putting them together.

What do you like the most/least about selling your wares online?

I like that I can reach a broad audience and share my work with people that I normally wouldn’t be able to selling locally. My least favorite thing is not getting to meet buyers in person or see them try something on. I love seeing how the item looks on someone else.

What’s your favourite word?

I really like the word “flotsam”. I don’t have a use for it but it means debris that is left at sea, I guess I like ocean related terms.
