Well. I have to say that this was the most awesome Friday night I’ve had in a long while!
After being invited to the Ultimate Rock’n’Roll Jam Session by the divine Candace DeVille (a.k.a. Super Kwaii Mama), I ended up volunteering to be one of her ‘girls’ for the evening’s 1950’s fashion parade!
As soon as I saw the words ‘vintage fashion parade’ I immediately thought of my friend Tracey, and her vintage clothing business, Bess Georgette (which she runs with the lovely Teresa).
So I roped Tracey and Teresa into the game – and we were all set to go!
Friday afternoon saw me in vintage clothing heaven – trying on a range of dresses from the Bess Georgette collection – until we found the perfect 50’s day dress… The Strawberry Ice Dress!
So after hours (yes, hours – I am not commonly found doing my hair and makeup) I looked like this:
And how fabulous does Candace look? Perfect as always!
Now, it’s not everyday I dress up like a cross between a 50’s housewife and starlet, so some photo action was in order.
Look at those lips! Wowsers!
I have to say, I was quite impressed with how my pin-curls came out. I curled my hair into little loops with bobby-pins when it was wet that morning, and wore a scarf over it all day. Then I used enough hairspray to burn down a house.
Here I am with the lovely Bess Georgette – Teresa on the left, and Tracey on the right – in their own gorgeous vintage frocks!
The final bit of awesome occurred when we went outside, and saw this car. The owner had just turned it on and was chatting to some friends. I tapped him on the shoulder and asked him if I could pose with his car. He said ‘lady, you can pose with my car any time’ awww…
You may not know I actually have quite a love for old cars like this, so it was a treat!
Oh, and by the way – the concert was absolutely awesome! James Blundell, Dave Larkin, Ezra Lee and Nick Barker (not to mention the other three fabulous musicians) put on a toe-tapping, jiving show. I thoroughly enjoyed myself! It’s finished in Brisbane, but if you’re in Melbourne or Sydney, you’ve still got this show to look forward to.
A big thank-you to Candace for the opportunity!
I’m just sorry I didn’t get a chance to take photos of all the other girls – it was all a bit frantic when they turned up! We had a blast swanning on stage before the concert in our various 50’s looks – and I have it on good authority that the crowd enjoyed it, as well.
P.S. most of these photos were taken by Tracey – how good is she with a camera?
