You may have heard me nattering about Project 18 before, both on the blog and on Twitter.
I have become great twitter-friends with Cate Bolt – the woman behind the charity. For those of you who don’t know, P18 is an Australian Charity that is raising money to build a sustainable orphanage and an animal sanctuary in Sumatra. I wanted to talk about them again today, because I feel that they are an awesome example of handmade goods being used to support a great cause.
Cate makes a range of bags, purses, dresses and cushions from donated fabric. She sells these in the Project 18 shop in order to raise funds for the project. Here are a few examples of the pretty things she has got in the shop at the moment….
So, if you’re looking for a new piece of handmade goodness to add to your life – I urge you to check out the P18 shop. Every dollar you spend there goes directly to saving the lives of children and animals.
Oh, and if that wasn’t enough, P18 are running a competition until the 12th of April – for every purchase until then you go in the draw to win a Nintendo DS worth $299 – so check it out!
P.S. – all you fabric-y crafty types out there – have you got lots of scraps lying around? (Yes, I know, rhetorical question!) I know that Cate would LOVE as much fabric as you can donate to help her make more things for her store – see more here.
