Embellishing a bag can be a fun and easy project. You can make the bag yourself. Or you can purchase a simple tote from most craft stores.
Materials:
Purse or tote made of print fabric. (If it’s a purse, embellish prior to sewing the bag.)
Beads, vintage jewelry, or any other pretty shiny thing you might love.
Jewelry thread – a fishing-line type of thread.
A beading needle (has a narrow head and body that can fit through the beads.)
Scissors or snips
How to Embellish a Bag:
- Choose a motif to embellish. Choose anywhere you like that will not interfere with a seam.
- Thread the beading needle.
- Poke through the fabric where you intend to place your first bead, leaving a few inches of thread hanging.
- Place your thread through the bead and stitch it down into position.
- Tie a knot with your threads. Do not cut!
- Move to the next place that you want a bead and make a little embroidery knot on the back side. Do not cut!
- Now poke through the fabric again and place your bead.
- Come out the back side and make an embroidery knot.
- Repeat until you are happy with your design.

Jewelry Making Tips:
Knotting on each end of the bead keeps the bead positioned snugly on the fabric. And if the thread breaks, you won’t lose all of your work.
Choose a length of thread shorter than you would for embroidery.
Don’t be in a hurry.
