Today we have a Guest Post by Jena Coray and Jen Neitzel {of the Maven Circle}. When I spoke to Jena regarding our interview last week, I threw out the idea of this post, and she and Jen ran with it! So, here are their 5 top tips for re-igniting your creative spark when you’re in a lull.

~~~~~
No matter how creative we are and how much time we get to indulge in that creativity, we can all lose our motivation and inspiration now and then- it’s just the bi-product of our busy lifestyles and over-active brains!
So the next time you’re feeling stuck, stifled or in a bit of a creative rut, here are 5 tips to help your re-ignite your creative spark!
1. Create a self-care routine.
Sometimes when you’re not giving enough to yourself it affects your creativity. The more you can find time to create moments of self-care in your day: time for eating, drinking enough water, exercising and time to quiet the mind – the more creative energy you’ll have!
2. Have fun!
If you’re always using your creativity for work or you tend to set-up too many rules for yourself around your creativity, that could be affecting how you feel about your art.
Try to step out of your normal artistic routinue and do something that is purely for fun. Try a new technique, explore your craziest creative ideas and see where it takes you! It might be that you’re stuck in one area because you’re done with that and ready to move on to new areas of creativity.
3. Explore your feelings.
Is there a reason that you’re stuck? Maybe you’re scheduling yourself so much in other areas and leaving no energy or time for your creativity? Maybe your current project is bringing up a difficult issue, or feelings of frustration? Explore to get to the root of why you’re feeling the way you’re feeling so you can nip it in the bud!
4. Make time.
Creativity is a funny thing, it doesn’t like to be forced. Sometimes you make the time and aren’t very productive because you’re just not into it that day.
Give yourself permission to have off days or to indulge in your artistic inspiration right when it strikes, even if you “should be doing” something else. Sometimes when you’re feeling the blahs around your art it’s because you’re about to start something entirely new and you need extra time to ruminate and marinade your ideas.
5. Go get inspired.
Read a book, talk to a friend, watch a movie that speaks to you, go to a museum, spend time out in nature – do the things that inspire you the most!
It’s so important to feed our inspiration as a creative person and make that a priority in our lives. We find ourselves super inspired by TED talks: ted.com/talks
What sort of things have you done to get out of a creative rut, and find your spark again? What things are you going to try if you’re feeling in that “stuck” place right now?
