As freaking AWESOME as working for yourself is – being in control of your work, being able to follow your passions, not having a boss telling you what to spend your time on, etc – it has its own set of challenges.

For me, those challenges most often take the form of trying to find a balance across everything I do – making sure to stay on top of my orders, my blogging, everything *bespoke*, upcoming speaking engagements, interviews, email… the list is endless. I often feel the frustration of not getting done all I want to get done. I look at my calendar and see dates I’ve set to complete things go by while I’m caught up in the day-to-day running of my business. I define this feeling as ‘overwhelm’.

I know nobody is pushing myself but me, but I can be a damn cruel task-master! Also, an important thing to remember when you’re self-employed is that while you don’t have one ‘boss’, you’ve actually got hundreds – every single one of my customers is my boss, and I need to work hard to keep them happy.

Furthermore, when your work and the rest of your life are so tightly intertwined, it can be a real struggle to make sure you’re taking care of yourself. To make sure you’re eating right, moving your body, giving your mind a break from always thinking about work. {I can see you nodding over there!}

Battling overwhelm can take a LOT of mental energy that would be better spent elsewhere! So, how do you do it? How do you overcome this feeling and infuse some calm back into your life?

I know for a fact I’m not alone in this quest – and for a long while now I’ve been following the work of Jen and Jena from The Maven Circle, who have made it their mission to help creative entrepreneurs unleash their inner awesome by working on their thoughts, actions, and habits.

I know they have a huge amount of wisdom to share, so I asked them to sit down and have a chat to me about overcoming overwhelm, fighting the mind gremlins, and much more.

This podcast is just over half an hour long, and is full of fantastic advice from these two lovely ladies.
