The lovely Jeanie from Inspired Wish is one of Epheriell Designs’ lovely sponsors (thank you, Jeanie!). She makes bright, uplifting resin jewellery (amongst other things), and it all started with a haircut…

How, exactly? Read on!

Take it away, Jeanie!

I live in Geelong VIC with my husband and two turtles Aristotle and Gertrude. I grew up in Qld, but relocated two years ago (& it’s taken that long to acclimatise).

Although I excelled at Art in high school my career has always been office bound. My speciality is administration and reception.  I guess I’m a hippy at heart because it doesn’t seem natural to be cooped up for the best part of the day. It is my wish to live an inspired life, where my days revolve around creating, enjoying the sunshine, and living more naturally.

How did your business start?

Inspired Wish came about because I wanted to change my hair style!

I felt dull and wanted a new look.  I’d been brave in the past and ended up disappointed when the new style didn’t suit me. It looked good on the girl from the magazine. I called in the help of an Image Consultant (Imogen Lamport from Bespoke Image) for her advice. Best thing I’ve done for myself.

It became clear that I felt dull because I forgot to add personality to my look by way of accessorising. After that I was on a mission to accessorise! Shoes & handbags were easy as I had some guidelines about what styles & colours suited my shape and personality best. However I wasn’t keen on buying mass produced jewellery. I have never been fond of the catalogues that appear in your letterbox (they’re a waste of paper and I rarely like any thing in them). I didn’t want jewellery for a season or to follow what everybody else was wearing. I wanted pieces with meaning and a story. I wanted to learn how to make my own jewellery.  ……and the journey began.

Almost immediately store assistants and co workers were commenting on my pieces. I received many nudges to sell my jewellery. At first I thought that was an outrageous idea, I was still learning. I’ve learnt when something in life feels so right it usually turns out great, so I took a deep breathe and created an online store.

What sets your work apart/what’s the focus of your work

My pieces are made with colour in mind. I like to think of my jewellery as easy ways to add splashes of colour to your look. I often get accused of being a positive person, like it’s somehow a negative to see only the up side of things. That positive vibe extends to my jewellery. If I read that yellow can brighten your mood, that inspires me to create a yellow ring for a dash of happiness. I love working with and wearing gemstones as they are known for their positive attributes. My pieces are about colour, fun and not only seeing the glass half full, but seeing it as already half enjoyed.

I started with beading, progressed into resin, and now exploring metal. My imagination runs overtime with ideas of how to combine resin & metal to create original and unique pieces. It’s a case of the technical know-how catching up to the ideas. It truly is a journey and I’m inching my way towards creative awesomeness.

Original creative style is very important to me. My design sketch book has written across the front ‘Original, unlike others’. This is something I am striving for. I daydream that one day I’ll be some place like a cafe and over hear some women talking, one will ask another, ‘is that an Inspired Wish?’. To have an original and recognisable style is my dream.
