What do you listen to while you work?

{A pile of Epheriell Urban Candy Earrings}

Hello Monday morning! And hello lovely readers – did you have a good weekend? I had lots of extended family visits this weekend, so it was a busy one away from work, which is unusual for me!

Today it’s time to get back to the jewellery bench and get through a whole lot of Epheriell orders that are staring at me.

When I sit down to make orders, 95% of the time I’ll put on some music to keep my brain entertained, because making jewellery can be a repetitive task – and when you’re not making new creations, the ol’ brain can get bored quite quickly.

I’ve often thought I should listen to podcasts while I work, but I don’t know where to find good, brain-engaging ones! So, most of the time, I just listen to albums, and sometimes to my favourite radio station, TripleJ. At the moment, I’ve got Boy & Bear, Sia, Gotye, and a few other Aussie bands on high rotation.

Do you listen to music/podcasts or watch TV or movies while you craft? I’d love to know what you’re listening to/watching at the moment!

{P.S. Right now is your last chance to enter this month’s giveaway – I’ll be drawing the winners this evening!}

  • I have really enjoyed listening to the Adam and Joe Podcasts from BBC 6 Music. They are just hilarious and off the wall. Very sad that I have run out now! Warning: can make time fly away from you!

  • I have to be listening to something when I work or I just can’t concentrate. I mostly listen to podcasts like The Moth or This American Life but I also sometimes listen to Triple J or to Tunn FM (http://www.michaeltunn.id.au/)for my 90′s music fix.

  • I mostly listen to world music. I love listening to music from a lot of different ethnic backgrounds. I find it stirs creativity and imagination. If I’m drowning out the kids though, I tend to listen to heavy metal. If I’m doing something non-creative/repetitive that doesn’t require concentration, I will usually listen to audio books. Since I have trouble reading a book visually now, this is a good substitute and lets me multi-task.

  • I love This American Life, and To The Best Of Our Knowledge. If you like food, Splendid Table. They are all NPR programs- I’m American. They are all available through iTunes though.

    You can do some armchair traveling while listening to Rick Steves’ Europe. Years of programs are archived on his site. There’s always something interesting in each one.

  • I always listen to our local NPR station WVTF streaming live. I love the classical music they play during the work day. It’s usually upbeat and inspiring. They usually don’t play the long, long, highbrow stuff, opera, or choral works. I like to think the complex music structure works in the background in my head making me more creative.

  • Thank you so much for all the awesome suggestions, everyone!! Definitely some new podcasts to check out there :)

  • Podcasts (Especially the Moth and this American life), LastFM (Billie Holiday and Louis Armstrong are pleasant companions), and Audible.com when I am sick of music. Finally finding the time to read(?) Jane Eyre!

  • I love having background music on when I’m working, cooking, cleaning, etc. I really don’t like to have a lot of talking, such as listening to talks, podcasts, etc when I’m doing those things…don’t know why, LOL.
