What do you think of these bags by Pansy Maiden? I really love the pastel colour palette, and the simple yet pretty designs. I’ve never liked those ‘fancy’ handbags that have pockets and do-dads dangling all over them – these are much more my style.

Laura makes the effort to create bags that are vegan – they use no animal products – and each bag is handmade.

Do you think about sustainability or environmental issues when you shop? Is it something that will sway your buying decision?

I don’t think about it perhaps as much as I should. I mean, I almost always buy clothes and non-grocery items that are handmade or vintage. I bought a dress from Target the other week for the first time in forever, and I seriously felt guilty about it!

I also love that in my own work, I use recycled sterling silver – not just because it means no additional mining had to be done to ‘make’ it, but I also love the idea that people who wear my jewellery are wearing silver that might have once been part of an old photograph, or part of another piece of jewellery that was melted down for re-use.
