This week we welcome Kirsteene Phelan from the enticingly titled Scrumptious Productions! Retro-themed goodness – and you could win a $35 voucher to spend!

Where do you live?

With my lovely husband and stepdaughter in Melbourne

What’s your favourite place in the world, and why?

I love my bed especially, it is great place for thinking up new ideas but I also love my balcony garden. I provides and enormous amount of satisfaction to watch my plants grow.

Tell us a little bit more about yourself! Your ‘day job’ or business, family, hobbies.

Scrumptious Productions is my day job, night job and weekend job. A sole trader small business can be pretty demanding. I am very
lucky to have a few key people helping me out with the business (Lauren, Teresa, Sally, Rhea, Nellie and Natalie) and I also have the support of my family who put up with me when I’m stressed about big orders or market deadlines. Many are the days I’ve ignored the needs of my family while puzzling away on a tricky problem.
I love to garden, read and eat and go to the gym to make up for the eating when I’m not ensconced in the needs of the business.

What did you want to be ‘when you grew up’?

I wanted to be a Microbiologist! Then a journalist, then a photographer, then a stage manager …. the list goes on…

How did you first get into your craft/art?

I’ve always been a bit arty though not in any formal way. Over the years I’ve had a go at making things and DIY has always been part of my life (necessity being the mother of invention and all. I was dissatisfied in my work rose so thought it would start a little market stall selling other makers things and one things lead to another and I ended up creating my own label bit by bit after a few experiments in jewellery making. My label has been operational for almost three years now and I stock stores In NZ and Australia plus maintain the online store.

What do you make?

Retro themed accessories for men and women but I specialise in stud earrings made from vintage materials.

What are you most proud of making?

My new Gold Soundz range is particularly wonderful. Each piece is one off and about 90% recycled. It is big departure from my previous work both thematically and structurally.

What do you like the most/least about selling your wares online?

I love the immediacy of the online world and the international reach it offers. I dislike the les tactile nature of shopping online.

I love…

my husband, step daughters, ideas, travel, myself, my life!

It drives me crazy when…

people turn left from the right lane.
