This week we welcome Lianne Donald from What Once Was as our featured artisan!
Where do you live?
Lebanon, Indiana. Just north of Indianapolis, out in the country in a farmhouse built in 1896.
Where do you do your work?
In a wonderful room with windows overlooking a pasture!
What’s your favourite place in the world, and why?
Home— I love where I live!
Tell us a little bit more about yourself! Your ‘day job’ or business, family, hobbies…
I work full time as a Registered Nurse in a hospital in Indianapolis. I LOVE my chosen profession. I have three children, all teachers!! I was fortunate to be able to move away from the city to peace and quiet about 5 years ago. I love being out in the middle of nowhere—it’s so quiet and very relaxing! I am also very sarcastic and have a quick wit!
What did you want to be ‘when you grew up’?
A veterinarian!
How did you first get into your craft/art?
I started by making sterling and gemstone bracelets. They sold very well, but I became bored making them. I love antiques and being creative, so I combined the two and started creating OOAK jewelry using antique and vintage components. I love the fact that my creations are unique! It keeps me from getting bored.
What are you most proud of making?
I love everything I make!! I really like the challenge of combining different antique bits and baubles and coming up with a wonderfully unique piece. I only wish I knew the history of some of the pieces I use. Oh, the stories they could tell!! I love the feeling that in some small way, I am preserving little pieces of history.
What do you like the most/least about selling your wares online?
Good question! I like the fact that I can show the world what I create—but it’s a big world, so it’s hard to get noticed!
I love…
My kids, gardening, warm weather, sunshine, animals, primitive antiques, reading and making jewelry! I also love being a Registered Nurse!
It drives me crazy when…
I have a design idea and it doesn’t work the way I thought it would!!
What’s your favourite word?
Facetious
If you could sum yourself or your work up in one sentence, it would say…
I enjoy the simple things in life and I’m pretty low key, but I’m also very tenacious and will keep trying something until I get it right!
