Today we welcome Helen from the bright and beautiful Beadevolution!

“I am a fairly new arrival to Australia (Melbourne), having spent most of my life in the UK and the past ten years in South Africa. My working life has been varied: I managed restaurants in London for most of my early career and then moved into HR. After moving to Cape Town in South Africa I set up and ran a very successful boutique guest house as well as renovating several houses.

Beadevolution is a brand new baby for me. I am a bit of a crazy collector and spend many hours searching the internet and various stores and markets for interesting stuff! I have been collecting beads and making jewelry for friends and family for a while and their encouragement and enthusiasm has prompted me to open my first store. I think my training as a chef and my passion for interiors and gardens makes me love putting together colours, shapes and textures in various combinations.

I am also the mother of three children – two boys and a girl. My daughter who is 7 is the youngest. She is my harshest critic but being a creative little soul she also has some fabulous suggestions. All my kids get very excited whenever a new parcel of beads arrives and are a wonderful source of feedback on all my creations! We are a very musical family so just about everything I produce is being accompanied!

I have recently started making my own resin and will be featuring some jewelry with my own resin beads soon. They are big chunky beads and quite unique. In that sense my choice of Beadevolution as a name reflects the evolving nature of my creativity.

Most of my designs are large statement pieces as I know how a big bright necklace can transform the plainest outfit and give the wearer a bit of a lift. They are also quite tactile pieces that will always get noticed. But mostly they are just fun.

A small portion of all my profits go towards an organisation that I support called Women for Women International. This is a charity which supports women in war-torn regions with financial and emotional aid, job-skills training, rights education and small business assistance so they can rebuild their lives.”
