Last week I realised that I had a whoooole lotta questions from you guys sitting on this post awaiting an answer! So firstly – an apology for totally dropping the ball on this. And secondly, a promise that answers are coming! I’ve got the next 4 videos lined up, and I’ll be publishing a Crafty Biz Q&A video every second Thursday from here on in.
Today’s question is from Julie. She writes:
“There are plenty of opportunities on the internet to get your name out here for free, if you can be bothered spending the time organising that. What makes you bite the bullet and spend cash on advertising? And how do you decide where to spend that money?”
I’ve got 4 good reasons to spend moulah on advertising to share with you in this video… watch on!

Great video Jess! You’re a natural.
Could you give an example of an advertising campaign you’ve run plus the quantitative and qualitative results you saw?
Cheers,
Caylie
Thanks Caylie!
Hmm, one that comes to mind is a campaign I ran in Feb. I advertised this blog across about 8 other blogs, and saw a definite leap in subscribers and traffic numbers from that. Don’t have the numbers in front of me, but it was definitely statistically significant, targeted traffic.
Hi Jess! That was an amazing video and was very helpful to me. I have been thinking about advertising but as I do struggle to keep up with my business already with life and demand for my products thrown into that mix, do you still believe it is important to advertise to promote my brand, even though I only have things available periodically? I mean, I release small collections from time to time through my facebook page and webstore so if I advertised, I might not have anything available at the time…
Hi Megan!
I think actual advertising (as opposed to social media/WOM marketing) is only helpful if…
1. You aren’t getting enough sales and you really want to get your brand out there. If you’re already struggling to meet demand, that’s probably not you.
2. You have a launch or a message you want to spread, and you want to reach a wider audience than the one you already have.
If you only do small collections periodically, I’d recommend you focus on PR rather than advertising. My next video is on that very topic actually, and it will be up not this Thursday but the next – I’ll give you some great resources to help you learn about PR in that one ๐
P.S. So glad you enjoyed it, thanks so much for the feedback! xx
Thank you so much Jess! Look forward to the next instalment ๐
