I wanted to share a little painting I have done with you all.

This image has been floating around in my head for months – ever since just after Nick left for England.

I started with an image in my head of Nick and I as two hearts – the two perfect hearts for each other, surrounded by a world of hearts not meant for us.

So I began by making a template – tracing one side of a heart shape, then folding it over and tracing it to get a perfectly symmetrical shape.

I cut that out and traced two of them on my canvas. After I had done that, I drew a lot of other heart shapes freehand – all different shapes and sizes.

Then it was just a case of painting it in. I wanted the identical hearts to really stand out – can you see them in the pencil sketch? My idea really came from the headspace I was in while Nick was away – that we were two hearts separated by a sea of others… and that is what I’ve tried to represent here. It’s not great art, or even good art – but it has meaning to me, and that’s what makes it special.
