Today I’m featuring a wonderful artist -Â Helen Janow Miqueo. I love her work, and I have featured her previously in my post highlighting 10 Cute and Whimsical Artists.
Today, I’ve got an interview with her – and a giveaway!
Where do you live?
I live in Northern California, San Francisco Bay Area (Silicon Valley).
Where do you do your work?
I have a studio in my house where I paint.
What’s your favourite place in the world, and why?
Hawaii! I love tropical weather, sun, sandy beaches and warm ocean! IÂ am always inspired by the natural beauty of Hawaiian Islands.
Tell us a little bit more about yourself! Your ‘day job’ or business, family, hobbies…
I am a relentless perfectionist and romantic at the same time…. I love my family, animals, figure skating, reading, poetry and movies. And I am passionate about my art!
I love to paint and share my art with the world: my friends, fans and art collectors. Born in Russia, I successfully completed Moscow’s School of Art and hold an AA Degree in Graphic Design. I have exhibited at numerous California galleries and On-line Galleries. My work can also be found in many private and corporate collections around the country and abroad. My painting “Sunrise in Eden” is on the cover of the upcoming musical album “The Garden” in the UK.
I sell my original art and giclee art prints from my original art on etsy (HJM Art Gallery – http://hjmart.etsy.com) and other venues.
What did you want to be ‘when you grew up’?
I always wanted to be a teacher. I enjoy teaching, especially art and graphic design.
How did you first get into your craft/art?
I can say that I have been painting since I was born. As long as I remember, I have been creating something. Creativity was always in my family. My grandfather wanted to be an artist, but World War II interrupted his dreams.
My grandmother was an incredibly talented woman who created very beautiful, intricate embroidery and crochet-work. My mother is an architect. Following in my family’s steps, I am also an artist.
What do you make?
I am an artist (painter). I work in the styles of: abstract, expressionism, surrealism, art deco and whimsical style. My art is inspired by nature. You will see many tree, birds and flower paintings in my etsy shop.
What are you most proud of making?
Everything I create is from my heart. I really hope that my visitors enjoy my art as much as I have enjoyed creating it!
What do you like the most/least about selling your wares online?
I enjoy talking and sharing my art with other creative people around the world.
I love… the creative process and the ability to express myself through color
It drives me crazy when… there is not enough hours in a day
What’s your favourite word?
Interesting question… I am not really sure I have one 🙂
If you could sum yourself or your work up in one sentence, it would say…
I think this quote by Van Gogh summarizes it very well: “In my opinion, I am often rich as Croesus, not in money, but …rich, because I have found in my work something to which I can devote myself heart and soul, and which gives inspiration and significance to life…..â€

I absolutely LOVE ‘Twitter’ (http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=40258070) though I love her style in general. Love the colour spectrum she uses, and how bright and warm they are.
Oooh, it is tough to choose a favorite! But I think Soulmates might be at the top of my list.
Such lovely work!
Also I subscribed to your blog!
Helen is a huge inspiration to me as an artist and I would put her work all over my house if I could. I can truly appreciate her unique style and how she knows who she is as an artist. Her strength and confidence shines through in the movement of her pieces. Her masterpieces continue to inspire me, evoke emotion and I am just a huge fan.
It is incredibly hard to choose a favorite but I would have to say this is my favorite: Waiting… -Original OOAK Bird Cat Landscape Art Deco Tree. Every time I see it, it makes me smile. I am a huge cat person (we have 2), love birds (we had them on top our wedding cake last year), love the colors, and feel the movement and emotion in this masterpiece.
