Hi I’m Bec from madeit.com.au and I love handmade.
I wish I had more time to be crafty but as you can imagine my day job keeps me very busy. I do have a long list of crafts I want to try and last year I ticked crocheting off the list.
I first went down to my local library and borrowed a crochet for dummies book, however learning this craft from a book seemed to be hard to master. My determination got the better of me and I contacted the local Country Women’s Association (CWA) and put a call out for a crafty Nanna to teach me to crochet.
My call was answered and Pat one of the lovely local CWA members patiently taught me to crochet. Pat taught me how to crochet a granny square and I haven’t looked back since. I now can read the ‘once overwhelming patterns’ and even learn new stitches from the crochet for dummies book. I get so excited every time I learn a new stitch – I’m such a crochet dork.
The reason I wanted to learn to crochet was thanks to a twitter post one late night – love the internet! The tweet lead me to Sarah London’s blog.
It was a colour explosion, love at first sight, a OMG moment and I have been her biggest fan ever since. Sarah has a great ability to match colours and her creations are creative and modern. You won’t be disappointed and I’m sure you’ll be a fan too.
The good news is you can buy Sarah’s patterns off her blog or buy Sarah’s book Granny Square Love here, she is one talented crafty Aussie!

Hi there Bec, clicked over from your article and am now poring over your site-you make beeeeeutiful things! Have a great day.
That cushion on the chair is FAB!
As another Hip Crocheter I will totally agree it is no longer just a “nanna” thing to do. And if the craft isn’t passed on the generations it will be a great loss. I Love Crochet. My Gran taught me when I was about 10, and she is still crocheting, although now I surprise her with the things I create and she often comments “how did you do that”. So I can teach her a thing or too – so nice. xo
What a great idea to call the CWA for help, I bet Pat really enjoyed passing on her knowledge.
I got the bug for crochet earlier this year and was lucky enough to have picked up some of the “Golden Hands” books from the op shop. They taught me step by step to crochet and I’m loving it, it’s such a fun craft and totally hip!!
i love the little converses, very cute!!!!
