Today I want to introduce you to the newest bird in my collection! He’s something pretty special, and I bought him as a present to myself a little while ago.
He had to travel by ship all the way from Canada, so I was super-excited when he finally arrived yesterday!
I think I’ve fallen a little bit in love – he’s sitting near my bed and I’ll often give him a little pat as I walk by… almost as if he were a real bird!
He was made in the 70’s by Canadian sculptor Leo Gervais, and I found him at The Vintage Cabin. To be honest, I think he might be a little in love with himself, too, if this photo is anything to go by…
He has certainly taken pride of place in my collection! And if the rest of Gervais’ work is like this, I just might have to be on the lookout for more pieces.

gorgeous!! i love the lines, so graceful.
I think that I too would pet him as I walked by.
Hello Jess, Oh lucky me! (in a way) My visiting granddaughter just accidentally broke MY beautiful bird. I searched the web for Leo Gervais and dropped in on you . Yours is exactly the SAME bird I have loved for 25 years. Can’t believe it. So, please , please would you send me Leo Gervais’ address I need to order another one. When I found my bird 25 years ago, I was going through a sad time. I thought he was just like me, as I turned him around feeling the different moods. I can’t imagine not seeing my bird every day. Thank you so much, Niki
Oh Niki, I wish I could! But I got my birdie from a vintage shop on Etsy 🙁 And she only had the one. I really hope you find another bird xx
Hi Jess, I just have to write and tell you that I love your shed/home, it gives a feeling of ‘love’ in the way you have furnished/decorated it. Your husband has done a great job with the ‘shed’ and your lovely bedroom. So many people, these days, want ‘it all’ the new house, the flash furniture, large tv’s in ‘theatre rooms’ so many go into enormous debt. We learned as children to accept used clothing, very few toys, one pair of shoes, we appreciated everything we had/were given. So as young adults we saved to buy land, had second-hand furniture and lived within our means. Thankfully our adult children have all followed in that way, and now have lovely homes, bar our youngest son who is a submariner, and middle son/and family, who moves within the mining employment lifestyle. It is so nice to see you in your lovely home filled with items you love. Especially your Leo Gervais bird, so beautiful. regards Marion (Downie)
Thank you, Marion! I agree – I was raised the same way, and have never hankered to ‘keep up with the Joneses’. We really do require very little to be happy! x
