You know, until recently, I thought brooches were just for Nanas to wear on their shawls.
Oh, how glad I am to have been so wrong… and finally realising it!
On Friday I’m going to be doing another Oh Brisbane… post showing off all the amazing crafty wares of the brisStyle team – I took a lot of photos at the recent market! But first, I wanted to share my purchases. I recently decided to start a brooch collection – and I had ample opportunity to start it at the market!
I limited myself to 4 brooches, and let me tell you, I could have bought SO many more (in fact, I have my eye on a few more…).
Here they are… please excuse the somewhat naff ‘model’ photos – do you know how hard it is to model something and not feel like a complete idiot??
1. A Creature Strange – love this! I want to learn how to make these fabric yo-yos… so cute!
2. REread – yes, I love owls – and the beautiful, repurposed coloured paper
3. Hungry Designs – OMG look at her HAIR! Yes, same colour as mine, how could I pass her up?
4. Up in Annie’s Room – so sweet! Love leaves, love pink, what can I say…
Freaking cute, no? And all made right here in my wonderful city.
Now… as I said… I’m looking to grow my brooch collection. Got any suggestions for me? I’m all ears!

I love brooches too Jess! Especially this time of year – pinning up scarfs and wraps and jumpers – love it 🙂
My pride and joy is a vintage marquesite-rhinestone studded ornate circle. It belonged to my great-grandma and it always gets comments.
Have fun with your collection!
Cheers,
Tasha
Oh, that sounds lovely Tasha!
Gorgeous brooch collection! It was great to actually meet you the other day!
It was lovely to meet you too! Melanie!
The girl brooch is gorgeous. I agree with Tasha, brooches are fab for tieing up scarves. Or on a jaunty hat. Or even just stuck on your handbag.
Yoyos are easy-peasy. Large circle of fabric, small running stitch around the edge, gather, press with LOTS of steam. Add a button to the centre too.
Thanks Sharon!! Deb sent me a link to a tutorial for them – they are easy – sweet too!
Ooohhh I am hearing you… I was late to brooches but now love them so much I am selling them! I think you might like them- you have very fab taste.

Thanks Cath – off to have a squiz now!
Hi Jess
Thanks for featuring my brooch! Looks like the beginnings of a great collection 🙂
love the brooches (especially number 3) but not as much as your red hair! :o)
Hehe, thanks Apryl!! I think I might stay a redhead for a while!
