Complete steps as follows:
1. Chase family & pets out of house.
2. Make calming beverage of choice.
3. Find quiet place or activity.
4. Sit down, sip drink and relax.
5. Repeats Steps 1-4 as often as necessary.
Sometimes the only way to get what you really want done, is to STOP.
We’re all busy people. In between 2 kids, 1 dog, 1 husband, keeping house, a part-time job and a micro-biz, there’s not a lot of spare time in my day.
So I keep on. Don’t stop. Must do.
Until my body stops me.
It’s usually in the form of a migraine – which means drugs to knock me out, 1 full day in bed and another 2 to recover.
You think I would have learned by now?
But if I slow down, I have the reserves to keep going later.
After I’ve finished my tea.
Now, go and make yourself a cup…
What is your best tip for slowing down? Your favourite relaxing beverage or your favourite quiet spots?

Tasha has decided that a “365 Challenge†will be one of the best ways of learning her new camera in 2010-2011. All the while she will continue with her jewellery designing (she’s thinking a 52-Week Earring Challenge, keep an eye out!), while she keeps steering her family toward a healthy and organic lifestyle.
If you enjoyed this post, please feel free to check out her blog.
I haven’t figured out what’s the best way to slow down technically..but if I handle one issue at a time without losing my cool , I can handle anything the day throws at me! My fave relaxing beverage is my hot cup of coffee – the first thing in the morning, listening to the birds , watching the sun rise – when I am all alone and no kids, no hubby around…serenity !
Lovely post and perfect timing. It feels like everyone’s run into 2011 at top speed. My favourite slowing down activities are stretching, walking, perhaps a little yoga and reading (ie turning off computer and reading a real paperback!)
I couldn’t agree with Chantel more. Perfect timing. After working full time and studying masters full time this was supposed to be my year of doing whatever I wanted and having free time again.
It’s not even February and somehow I have filled my time with an Etsy store, additional blog, four Twitter accounts, a watercolor class, fashion illustration class, online business course, freelance marketing comms project to launch a new product within two weeks, and of course there is my full time day job!
Need to fit in some slow time!
P.S. Love the watercolor heading, it’s beautiful!!
I have sort of a strange relaxation ritual. I have a certain fondness for watching crafting videos on YouTube – almost always a craft that I don’t know how to do (ie crocheting, scrapbooking). So when I really need a break, I grab my laptop, crawl into bed and watch a few short videos until I fall asleep. Is that weird? I’ve always felt a huge sense of calm when I watch people create.
Yum, the morning coffee – I’m with you on that one Lakshmi! Although I’ve discovered this week (much to my horror) that if I don’t have my morning coffee, I end up with a stinker of a headache by lunch… eek. Does that mean I’m addicted?
Thanks Chantal 🙂 It does seem like everyone is already running at top speed, doesn’t it… I’m a fan of all of your slow down activities, especially the reading!
Argh, Jess – it sounds like you DEFINITELY need to fit in the slow down time. You’ve got a very, very full plate indeed! Have fun with 2011 – and do slow down, love. You will thank yourself later for scheduling some ‘you’ time.
Not weird at all Thursday, not at all.
