I’ve wanted to make spoon/fork rings for the longest time! It’s one of those things on my eternal to-do list. So I was quite pleased to find this tutorial today over on Through the Front Door (which I found via Pinterest)!
For those of you without a silversmithing background, this will give you a good idea of the steps involved in turning an old fork or spoon into a lovely ring!
Now, I just have to remember to look out for sterling silverware on my next op shop outing…

wow Jess they look amazing – I was just scouring the op shops myself, haven’t found pretty enough spoons yet (although if they’re pretty enough, will I be able to bring myself to cutting them down!?!!)
I know what you mean! It’s hard to damage lovely old things – even to make them into something equally lovely!
It shouldn’t be too hard to remember to look for cutlery in op-shops, should it, Jess?! The hard bit will be determining the Sterling Silver…is cutlery stamped with the same code some jewellery is? I do love those rings.Â
Hi Sally
to my knowledge it depends on where the piece is from as each country has different control and hallmark. Have a look at this link on Wikipedia:

Hi Jess,
make sure you check the stamps as a lot of old silverware is actually only silver plated.Â
That looks like a fun project! Might have to do some myself too 😉
Yep, finding real silver will be the trick!
Oh wow, this looks amazing! Are you going to sell them in your shop?
Ooh, maybe! 😀 If I could find a good source of old cutlery…
WOW. These are amazing! Let us know how you go making them.Â
I will!
