{Powderfinger is definitely on every party playlist for me – good choice, Kell! ~ Jess}

I’ve followed ED for a while now, probably a couple of years – as Jess was one of the first people I added on Twitter after finding her on Etsy. She’s been one of my constant sources of inspiration and encouragement as I check in every day with the electronic watercooler that is Twitter (that’s how our mutual friend Dannielle has referred to it).

When Jess asked me if I’d be part of Epheriell Designs’ 3rd birthday celebrations I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. What an honour!

One of the many passions we share, beyond our love of handmade, is that we’re both huge fans of Australian band Powderfinger, who like Jess, hail from Queensland. So when thinking of a way to showcase some wonderful designs for you, I was inspired to combine the two.

Wishing on the same moon

I chose this song to showcase due to the chorus “There’s just one thing that I failed to tell you, I’m wishing on the same moon, and stars above you, We’re wishing on the same moon”.

Each of us creatives, working in our little businesses (or maybe just as a hobby making some pocket money) are all connected by the hopes and dreams that somebody out there is just as passionate when viewing our work as we are when making it. That the time, love and dedication we’ve poured into each piece is appreciated.

That the risks we have taken financially and personally will pay off. It’s a tough battle against a society conditioned to pay less and less for mass produced stuff and more often than not, we have to put our passion to be different and make a mark before our need to make money.

When you hold a handmade or *independently created item in your hands, you are holding the wishes, hopes and dreams that the creator has built into the piece. We have made that piece of jewellery, printed that photograph, sewn that dress, whilst thinking of the new life it may have once it leaves us. It may not always be 100% perfect, but it is just as special and treasured as the person who unwraps it at the other end.

Jess and I and our large community of creative friends are all wishing on the same moon, for appreciation and acknowledgement of our contribution, and for handmade and ethical gifts to be the first choice, not a quirky alternative.

*By independently created, I’m referring to those of us that create digital art such as photography or graphics and have the end result produced/printed by professional means such as a professional photo lab, printing company or agent such as Redbubble. We have still created the artwork ourselves, but have involved/entrusted a third party to help us finalise our vision. I wasn’t quite sure of the correct term to use for this.
