In my quest to make my first dress, I’ve come across a few patterns in op shops, I’ve collected a bit of fabric… and I’ve procrastinated!
Mostly because I find patterns completely overwhelming and confusing. However, help is at hand! My friend Manda put me on to Colette Patterns – specifically, the Crepe Dress.
This is what it *should* look like…
It’s a beginner pattern, and it’s also a wrap dress, so there are no closures to sew, and it won’t matter if I don’t get all the measurements spot on because I can just wrap it looser/tighter – win!
I also got beginner skirt and blouse patterns – I guess I was being optimistic!
I’m not sure when I’ll get the chance to make this – but hopefully it will be before we go to the UK and France in June. Perhaps I can take it with me and walk down the Champ Elysees in Paris in my handmade dress feeling smug? Or perhaps that’s a little over-ambitious…

Oh good luck with your dress!! It will be so lovely when you get it done! Im dying t learn to make my own clothes…i wish i had done it earlier 😛
I find the idea of sewing a dress completely frightening but this dress is EXACTLY what I’ve been hunting for over the past few months – simple and lovely and all good! I wonder who I could convince to make me one if I buy the pattern?
I bet you could do it, Ems! I’m pretty frightened, too, but the instructions look pretty clear… ;D
I’m the same, but recently have thought I’m going to make the plunge and do a skirt…soon….
Look forward to seeing how this goes!
