So, a few months ago now I bought myself an embroidery hoop, needles, and a few colours of thread.
Not much happened for a while.
This weekend just gone I suddenly found the urge to embroider overtake me. I started by drawing a free-hand sketch on a piece of calico, and got to work.
I decided to make all of my flowers different, vibrant colours:
It’s almost finished! I just had to buy another bright colour today to finish it off… which I will do tomorrow.
Here are some more embroideries that I have made over the last few days…
I thought I might do a cute little embroidery for my wedding (next month, eek!) which I’ve only started, but you can see what the final piece will look like…
I’m thinking we can put this with the cakes? Not sure yet – but it will be a nice little keepsake!
I also found this awesome embroidery pattern site!! This is not what you find at the local craft store… check out this sassy little craft bunny…
As you can see, I’ve just traced this onto my fabric, rather than using transfer paper. I printed it out, put the paper underneath, and traced onto the calico with pencil. I like doing this – the lines are not as dark as using a transfer, and it works just as well!
Here’s the finished bunny –
How freaking cute is this?!?! Go check out Urban Threads to see more – no doubt I’ll be showing you more designs from this site in future! (P.S. their hand-embroidering patterns are only $1 – pretty sweet!).
I’m going to be framing these in wooden embroidery frames, ready to hang on my wall or prop up on the bookshelf…

Really cute Jess, it’s funny when starting something new you just can’t stop doing it, keep it up, it all looks great 🙂
Really cute! I especially love the bunny. He’s rockin’.
hello bunny! you are so cute!
lovely bunny!
I agree, that bunny is adorable!
What beautiful fun embroidery! I recently discovered a website that actually ‘shows’ you a wide variety of well known stitches, and I managed to finally get it, after struggling with a book for so long!! It was so brilliant, I bookmarked it. You are so clever.
Thanks everyone – I really enjoyed making these – I see many more embroideries in my future 🙂
Lu, would you mind sharing the website here?
