Where do you live?

I just moved from Denver, CO to Brooklyn, NY.  It is quite the change!

Where do you do your work?

I don’t have a job yet.  I am hoping that my Etsy business will take off and I won’t have to look!

What’s your favourite place in the world, and why?

I lived in New Zealand for a year and I fell in love with it! I miss combing the ever changing beaches on the north shore of Auckland for sea shells.

What did you want to be ‘when you grew up’?

Growing up watching movies like Fame, Flash Dance, and Footloose, I always wanted to be a dancer.

How did you first get into your craft/art?

I’ve been sewing since I was 10.  When I was 20 I lost my job and as a way to make extra money I made bags and sold them to local stores.  Though I found other jobs, I continued to design clothing, bags, and recently belts.

What do you make?

Clothing, bags, belts.  I recently took a European pattern drafting class and have become addicted to making tuxedo jackets.

What are you most proud of making?

I made my wedding dress.  I wasn’t the best seamstress at the time and I didn’t have a dress form.  I had my roommate, bless HIS heart, stand on a table so I could do alterations to it.  I look at it now and cringe at my work, but at the time, it was the most incredible thing I had ever created.

What do you like the most/least about selling your wares online?

I love the audience that I reach selling online.  Normally I would not be able to reach customers from Finland, Australia, China, Japan, and Canada.
I do wish that customers could see, feel, try on, and experience who I am in person.  The internet takes away some of the interpersonal connection and the sensory experience you usually get shopping at a craft show or in a boutique.

my husband! He supports me in everything that I do.  I am so incredibly lucky!

It drives me crazy when…

I see resellers on Etsy.  Ugh!

What’s your favourite word?

SweetAs.  (It is a New Zealand thing)
