Yesterday afternoon Nick took me for a wander along the High Street of Southampton! I saw my very first ‘old thing’ – the Bar Gate. It was the old gate of the Southampton city walls, from 1300-and-something. Amazing.
You wouldn’t have known it was the summer solstice the day before – it was freezing! I felt like I never left the Queensland winter, and I have to admit I had a bit floofy waterproof jacket with me too, which I wore when the wind picked up.
I love so many things about England so far! All the colourful doors are one of them.
In the evening, we went out with my lovely in-laws for Italian – then we wandered around the local village – Romsey – for half-hour or so. At 9pm. And it was still light. I heart twilight!
I had an Alice in Wonderland moment at the Old Abbey.
1739. My country wasn’t even settled by Europeans then!
I am absolutely loving it here so far – and only 2 days down – 5 + weeks to go!
