I came across this stunning shop on Etsy the other day, and just had to share. Mary creates art in many mediums – here are just a few of her hand-painted glassware items.

Four Seasons 5-piece set

I would adore this last set for myself – but it would have to live in a glass cabinet because wine glasses and me have a very tenuous relationship. How I wish I were not a total klutz…

Go and visit Mary here to see the full range of her gorgeous work!

il_430xN.80875981Where do you live?

I live on our very quite and peaceful rural five acre property here in the South West of Western Australia.

Where do you do your work?

I am so lucky ! My studio is at the bottom of my garden. It is a one room cottage that was originally accommodation at a local timber mill and was built early 1900’s. It’s a quirky little cottage with fireplace, crooked chimney and verandah…I just love it!

What’s your favourite place in the world, and why?

Home is definitely my most favourite place…It’s just so beautiful here! We are surrounded by thousands of acres of National Park, and feel so lucky to be living so close to nature.

Tell us a little bit more about yourself! Your ‘day job’ or business, family, hobbies…

il_430xN.88422953Well, my ‘day job’ is playing with glass…in fact my whole life seems to revolve around playing with glass LOL… It really is all that I do :)

I have a wonderful husband and a grown up son… our babies are our two dogs that we spoil a lot. And we have two appaloosa horses that don’t do much except look nice in the paddock. We have a VW Kombi Camper that we’ve done up and we like to get away as often as possible… down towards the south coast near Denmark and Augusta are our favourite places.

What did you want to be ‘when you grew up’?

I can remember wanting to be either a mounted police woman or a vet. I am so glad that I am neither LOL

How did you first get into your craft/art?

I’ve been an artist ‘forever’…actually about 20 years… and I used to work a lot with clay. Just over 4 years ago I discovered glass!…it changed my life. That might sound a little dramatic but it’s true :)
I became obsessed with glass, and I think I am still addicted.
I thought that this obsession may have worn off a little by now, but it hasn’t…I still can’t wait to get down to the studio every day, and usually dream about glass every night – LOL.

il_430xN.88429516What do you make?

I mostly make dichroic glass pendants.

I love hand-etching glass, and can spend hours lost in free hand etching… especially etching very fine details.

What are you most proud of making?

Hard question… I think the answer changes every time I open the kiln. At the moment my favorite things are my flower suncatchers…I have a display stand of them in my studio, and really enjoy looking at them.

I love…

feeling connected to the world ! I love that I can live my ideal quite rural lifestyle and a computer can put me in touch with people all over the world.

It drives me crazy when…

Not much drives me crazy at all anymore. I tend to be very optimistic and just solve problems as they come along.

What’s your favourite word?

Mmm… probably ‘Fabulous!’. I tend to say it a lot.
