Do you have a craft widower in your life?
You know, that guy who you live with?
The one who always has to step over your pile of fabric as it slowly creeps along the floor?
Who has to clear a space on the table every time he wants to use it because it’s covered in your beads/paper/yarn?
Who brings you a cup of hot beverage when you’re working away…
Who bemoans the amount of time you spend online – claiming you spend more time chatting on Twitter than you do talking to him?
Well, he needs to know he’s not alone. This is an ode – and a thank you – to all those craft widowers who put up with our mess, our distraction, our strange obsessions…
You know we still love you, and we’ll come to bed soon…
…right after we finish this last listing…

This is my craft widower… and boy, does he take it with good grace. The amount of tea he has made me over the years has to truly be without measure.
I guess I should call Gobbolino (cat of a thousand names) my crafty orphan, too. Many has been the time he’s come over to me and I’ve been too busy on the computer to pay him any attention. Not that that’s stopped him getting it, mind you. I’m sure your fur-kids or real kids have the same attitude…
What does your crafty widower do for you when you’re in your creative headspace?
Or – what does he NOT do that you’d like him to?

Mine is not so much a craft widower as a computer widower. I seem to spend my life here, writing, reading, tweeting. But those words – ‘yes, I’ll come to bed soon’ – are universal. 🙂
Love it Jess! Yes I have a crafty widower too-but mine doesn’t bring me tea 🙁 He does sometimes sadly walk off to bed on his own though.
hehe, my DH is generally on the computer next to me.
I trip over his computer stuff and he trips over my craft stuff.
We take turns at the ‘I’ll come to bed soon’ thing 😉 Although generally the other is on the internet on their phone in bed while waiting for the other to get off the computer/internet in the office.
*sigh* our children have no hope of avoiding the geek gene 😉 rofl
Oh, and my DH only brings me tea when I’m sick lol. He does make toast to share though 🙂
My crafty widower brings me snacks etc, massages my neck when I’m getting frustrated, pipes in wiht colour suggestions when asked, but otherwise keeps clear when I’m in the zone…he’s a smart man lol
LOL.. so true Jess.. some days I suddenly look up.. it is dark.. all around me is the fruits of my singularly focussed day.. the children look starving and the dog looks glum.. I have created an abundant mountain of fabric all around… but darn it we can’t eat that for dinner can we???
Oh dear Jess, your post just made me laugh and picture my dear husband nodding away and saying, “Yeah, yeah…you’re like that” while reading your post.
While I’m crafting or on the computer my crafty widower brings me mugs of tea or Milo, bathes the kids, teases me about my listing descriptions over my shoulder and reminds me that it is well past bed time! He is also very good at FB’ing about my store and telling people to read my blog, LOL. 🙂
Yes, yes, yes! My craft widower makes me cups of tea and makes sure that I eat well… I can forget to do that when on a crafty roll. He also looks after the bub!
He does complain about how my crafting takes over not only most of the house, but the area which is supposed to be his.
So now, he’s decided, that if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em! He’s started working on his own jewellery designs which, as you know, is how he discovered your blog and forwarded it onto me!
My wonderful hubby sometimes gets frustrated by my clutter but overall, he’s my biggest fan and often helps me with a loving critique about something I am working on. I’m his biggest fan too. He’s an amazingly gifted architect!
