New Boots and a BrisStyle Day…

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

Today was a day of crafty socialising (oh, and some shopping… the good kind, not the grocery kind)!

I finally made it to a monthly BrisStyle meet-up – the last two I had to miss due to unforeseen events, so it was a relief to awaken and not have some illness or emergency keep me away for a change!

Being the muppet that I am, I took my camera along.. then totally forgot to take photos – argghh!! But much fun and chatting was to be had – followed by us descending on Funky Fabrix en masse. Now, as you all know, I can’t sew a straight line, so I was just going to see what all the fuss was about… and oh my. Walking in there re-awakened my ‘want-to-sew’ monster! I’ve never seen such a range of utterly gorgeous fabrics in all my life. Maybe I can actually make a cushion cover? That must be pretty simple, right?

Since I didn’t trust myself to buy any fabric and actually use it (read – not mangle it), I settled for a cute little hair clip!

After the meet-up I stopped off at the Mall – I was feeling a hankering for some new boots. I found a pair I loved quite quickly… and here they are!

Does anyone else not have any idea how to stand when they pose for photos like this?? Anyways, I fell in love with these when I saw them – the adorable little buttons down the side just got me!

I also made and wore this little hairclip today to match my Tryptich Pearl necklace (the one I’m wearing in these photos):

I’m hoping to actually create some new designs tomorrow – I’ve got some gorgeous dark purple button pearls that I must make use of…

Have a great Sunday, guys!

Welcome – To the BrisStyle Winter Market 2009…

Saturday, July 4th, 2009

And what an awesome market it was!

BrisStyle Front Banner

The day began early, with the cold wind that has appeared over the last few days making things a tad uncomfortable for the outdoor marketeers!

BrisStyle Outside

Inside, it was a bit more cozy – but little did we know just how cozy it would get when the crowds started rolling in later! Here’s the indoor marketeers putting the finishing touches on their stalls…

BrisStyle Inside

I managed to run around and get a few photos before the day really got underway… here we have the lovely Bec from BeckyBean (Jade was hiding off-camera). (P.S. that is Super-BrisStylette Helen in the background – the woman who made all this possible!)

I also grabbed a shot of SMBoutique - Sandrine came around and had introduced herself to me earlier – I just love her work!

And here is one of my neighbours, My Girl Designs – taken care of by Shannon’s lovely girls!

My other neighbour was Tracey from Denim Days, who very kindly looked after my stall a few times when I wanted to wander off and look around!

So, what about me, then? Well… Nick and I arrived at about 7:30, and we lugged everything inside and began setting up. I hadn’t done a trial run at home, so I wasn’t totally sure how to put it all together…

But by 8:30 we’d gotten it all pretty much storted, and my stand looked like this:

I was really happy with how it worked out – must remember to iron my table-cloth next time, though!! (It was brand-new out of the packet).

Nick hung around until about 10, and then I was on my own apart from a few visits from friends and family – my mum and dad made an appearance, as did a few ‘real-world’ friends. The most exciting visits I got, though, were from people I had only ever met online – it was so awesome to meet them in the real world! Early in the morning I met both Sam (from Jetta’s Nest – a fellow BrisSyler and customer of mine), and Sharon (from Shazzabeth, whom I’ve featured on my blog).

As the market progressed, I met one of my lovely online customers, who introduced herself and promptly bought another pair of earrings she had been eying off! The second was from Liz (hundredsofbuttons)! Liz was one of the previous donors to the Aussie Handmade Giveaway, as well as a DUST friend – it was great to meet her and her cute grand-baby. Finally, I met the Awesome Ange – one of my good mates online (and another fellow DUSTer). You might see her at the next BrisStyle markets, as she has been won over to the BrisStyle side!

Overall, I had a fantastic, though exhausting, day. I made 24 sales, which was just amazing. It was so wonderful to interact with people face-to-face, and actually see my customers enjoying my creations! I was left with a lot less business cards than I started with, so hopefully a few more people will come by and visit Epheriell online, too.

It was so incredibly busy – at one stage it was so packed inside that people had to queue at the door! I couldn’t have asked for a better first market, and you can be sure I’ll be doing all of the BrisStyle markets from now on. So, a big thank you to Helen and all the other BrisStylettes who made the market such a success – and here’s to each market being bigger and better!

(P.S. I made a few purchases too… I’ll show you those another time!)

Market Displays… some unique ideas…

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

So, as you all know, I’m madly preparing for the Brisbane Indie Designers Market next Saturday.

I have had some neat ideas for my displays, so I thought I’d share with you all and see what you thought!

First, I wanted some way to display a stack of my earrings and necklaces hanging… so I came up with this:

1st-market-prep-3

Know what it is? It’s a canvas! I’ve painted it black, and I’m going to attach some wood to the back to make a stand. I thought it was a neat way of displaying things without spending too much. Oh, and I’ve stuck those thumb pins in it to hang things on.

Second, I actually bought this cute little earring hanger at the Brisbane Stitches and Craft Show – I wasn’t convinced that I liked it until I actually filled it with earrings…

Third, I wanted something to catch people’s eyes from a distance – so I’ve printed out a stack of my product photos on glossy paper and made displays with them – oh, and my brand name, too. It looks a bit messy atm, because it was raining when I made them, and the card has warped a bit because of the moisture. I need to work out how to flatten them!

1st-market-prep-4

Last, I had a brainwave about how to display my Resin Candy necklaces… what do you think?

1st-market-prep-2

I’ve got them hanging on my candelabra! I can scoot this in next to my table, a voila!

I’m hoping my stall has a coherent ‘look’ – and that it looks stylish.. but we’ll have to wait and see until next weekend!

Oh, I’m also working on some new Resin Candy Earrings to compliment my necklaces – what do you think?

Right, signing off ’till tomorrow – hope I haven’t posted ya all out! Oh, and make sure to visit tomorrow – I’m very excited about the Artisan I’m featuring – with a $25 voucher up for grabs!
